Over 12 months (expected scenario)

  • Extra organic visits: 17,525
  • Extra customers: 17.5
  • Total investment: ₹12,00,000
  • Cost per extra lead: ₹6,847
  • Same clicks bought in Google Ads: ₹10,51,506
  • ROI on paid-click value: -12%

Revenue ROI and paid-click ROI are two separate views of the same visits. Don't add them together.

Disclaimer

This is an estimate based on the numbers you enter and simplified assumptions about ramp-up time. It isn't a forecast for your site, a quote or a guarantee of results. Rankings and traffic depend on competition, your site's starting point, algorithm changes and how quickly recommendations are implemented. For a projection built on your own data, book an audit.

Privacy: URLs you check are fetched once to produce the result and aren't stored.

How the SEO ROI calculator works

The calculator follows the path from traffic to money, step by step:

  1. Traffic projection: your current monthly organic visits plus the extra visits you expect by the end of the period. SEO doesn't deliver its full effect in month one, so the extra traffic follows an S-shaped ramp: slow at first, faster in the middle, levelling off.
  2. Organic leads: extra visits × your website conversion rate.
  3. Customers and revenue: extra leads × lead-to-customer rate × average customer value.
  4. Paid-click value: extra visits × your average cost per click. This is what the same traffic would cost in Google Ads.
  5. ROI and payback: (cumulative revenue − cumulative investment) ÷ cumulative investment, and the first month cumulative revenue covers cumulative cost.

The formulas

  • Extra visits (month m) = target uplift × ramp(m)
  • Leads = extra visits × conversion rate
  • Revenue = leads × close rate × average customer value
  • Paid-click value = extra visits × average CPC
  • ROI % = (cumulative revenue − cumulative investment) ÷ cumulative investment × 100

Choosing realistic inputs

  • Conversion rate: use your own analytics. Organic visitors to service pages convert differently from blog readers.
  • Close rate and customer value: use CRM data rather than hopes. If customers buy repeatedly, use the value over the first year, not the lifetime.
  • Traffic uplift: base it on keyword research (search volumes and realistic positions), not a round number. Use the conservative scenario when presenting to finance.
  • CPC: take it from your Google Ads account or Keyword Planner for the same keywords.

Why SEO ROI ramps up slowly

Early months go on fixes, content and links that take time to be crawled, indexed and trusted. That's why monthly ROI is often negative at the start and improves later, and why judging SEO on its first quarter usually undervalues it. My worked example of the value calculation shows how I report this to clients.

Want a projection built on real data?

A calculator can only be as good as its inputs. In an SEO audit, I build the projection from your Search Console data, keyword research and conversion tracking, then set targets you can hold me to.

FAQ

SEO ROI Calculator: common questions

Short answers to what people ask most about this tool and topic.

There's no universal benchmark, because it depends on your margins, sales cycle and competition. Compare SEO with your other channels using the same method: revenue (or paid-equivalent value) against cost over the same period, allowing for SEO's slower start.

It varies widely. Technical fixes can show within weeks; new content and authority usually take several months to compound. Use the conservative scenario and look at the payback month the calculator shows, rather than month-one ROI.

Use revenue when you can track it. Paid-click value is useful when revenue tracking is weak, or to show what the traffic would cost to buy. Don't add the two together, because that counts the same visits twice.

Costs start immediately while results build gradually. That's normal for SEO; the cumulative line and payback month tell the real story.
