Doubling Organic Sessions With Service Pages and Blog Clusters

A US workforce solutions firm grew organic sessions by 102% (10,471 → 21,144) and blog organic sessions from 89 to 1,055 over eight months. Dedicated service pages, hub-and-spoke blog clusters and the Indexing API for job postings drove the growth.

BACKGROUND

The challenge

I led this programme in a previous agency leadership role. The site attracted few non-branded visitors: the blog drew almost no organic traffic and there were no dedicated service pages for people searching for what the firm offered.

The plan was to give each service a page that could rank, and to surround those pages with structured blog content that earned non-branded visits.

Client and agency not named for confidentiality. I led the strategy; the work was delivered with my team at the time.

EXECUTION

What we did

01

Hub-and-spoke blog clusters

Developed blog clusters using a hub-and-spoke model, with snippet-ready bullets and tables and a clear content structure.

02

Competitor-benchmarked content

Created blog content aligned with the top five ranking competitors for each topic.

03

Dedicated service pages

Created dedicated service pages and updated content on existing ones.

04

Indexing API for job postings

Implemented the Indexing API for job postings.

05

Technical health

Ran regular audits with developer fixes and kept the technical health score above 90%.

STRATEGIC LESSON

The takeaway

Service pages capture commercial searches and blog clusters capture research searches — together they widen the non-branded footprint far more than either alone.
